  • September 7, 2017 Thomson Reuters to Establish Internal Cybersecurity Operations Center in Virginia

    Governor Terry McAuliffe today announced that Thomson Reuters will establish an internal cybersecurity operations center in the City of Richmond. The company will occupy approximately 10,000 square feet at Riverfront Plaza and plans to employ up to 60 people in highly specialized roles by the end of 2018. Virginia state officials met with the company and successfully recruited this project for the Commonwealth in February 2017 in San Francisco at the RSA Conference where Governor McAuliffe was a featured speaker.

    Don't miss out on career in CyberSecurity! Major tech companies are offering FREE training to veterans to help fill more than 17,000 open cyber jobs in Virginia. Please join us in-person or virtually for our upcoming orientation! 

    Please note:to be eligible for VVCT training, you will need to complete a 15-hour prerequisite course Intro to CyberSecurity.

  • October 14 and October 21 Coders Experience

    These one-day events will take place at 10 different college campuses and educational centers around the state on Saturday, October 14 and 21. Our goal is to get 100 girls who are interested in technology to attend at each location. This translates to 1,000 middle schoolers around the state gaining tech knowledge, skills and confidence!

  • Sept. 9th - Oct. 25th 2017 Cyber Hygiene and Cyber Intelligence Bootcamp for K-12 STEAM Educators

    The bootcamp is an interdisciplinary train-the-trainers approach to help enhance VA educators‘ experience in cyber hygiene (the daily maintenance of an individual’s online safety - using strong passwords, updating software patches) and cyber intelligence (analysis of cyber threats). This course is designed to help educators better understand cyber threats, to enhance students’ online safety, and integrate cybersecurity into any course.

  • New Free Video Series Showcases Cybersecurity Careers

    As the Internet, computers and smart devices become increasingly integral to our lives, the need for ensuring the security of our networks, devices and data has become more critical and the demand for cyber workers more pressing. The cybersecurity field offers high paying, high demand jobs with high worker satisfaction. A shortage of more than 1.5 million cybersecurity workers globally is predicted by the year 2020.

  • June 5, 2017 Governor McAuliffe Announces FY2017 Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund Awards

    RICHMOND – Governor Terry McAuliffe today announced $2.7 million in funding to support 40 Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) awards representing targeted areas of promising research commercialization, including advanced manufacturing, cyber security, energy, environment, information technology, life sciences, and unmanned systems.

    “The Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund has provided funding to Virginia’s innovators at critical points in their research, helping them find solutions to important state, national and international problems,” said Governor McAuliffe. “These awards will contribute to the Commonwealth’s growing leadership position in technology innovation and research excellence, while generating significant long-term economic benefits and growing the new Virginia economy.”

  • May 30, 2017 Governor McAuliffe Announces Winners of the “NSA Day of Cyber” Challenge

    RICHMOND – Governor Terry McAuliffe today announced the winners of Virginia’s “NSA Day of Cyber” School Challenge. The Governor launched the challenge in October of 2016 and it concluded in March of this year. The Commonwealth leads the nation in the total number of students who participated, and out of the five winning schools, three hold top spots nationally.

    “Virginia’s national leadership in the ‘NSA Day of Cyber’ is proof that our schools and our educators are dedicated to making the Commonwealth a hub of cybersecurity excellence,” said Governor McAuliffe. “I want to congratulate the top five schools for their hard work and all the students across the state that used this unique opportunity to explore cutting-edge careers and learn more about the skills that will lead to success in the new Virginia economy.”

  • May 24, 2017 Virginia Tech Designated NSA Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations

    RICHMOND – Governor Terry McAuliffe today announced that the National Security Agency (NSA) has designated Virginia Tech as a Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO). The first university to receive this status in the Commonwealth, Virginia Tech joins an exclusive list of sixteen other universities in the nation in bearing this designation.

    “This elite designation is an outstanding addition to Virginia’s cyber portfolio,” said Governor Terry McAuliffe. “This very technical, inter-disciplinary, higher education program is firmly grounded in computer science, computer engineering, and electrical engineering disciplines and offers students an opportunity to attain the highest level of cyber credentialing in the Commonwealth. Cyber security is at the very heart of our efforts to build a new Virginia economy, and Virginia Tech’s CAE-CO designation contributes to the Commonwealth’s position as one of the premier locations for this industry.”
